BenQ Joybook 5100

Laptop RAM Upgrade?
My current laptop BenQ Joybook 5100 has 512MB ram installed. It consists of 2x256MB modules. On both of them it lists: Infineon, PC2700, 256MB, DDR, 333, CL2.5 and another: Kingston, KVR333X64SC2.5/256 2.5V From the existing modules, I can see that it is 200-pin SO-DIMM DDR 333MHz. I'll like to upgrade to perhaps 1GB, can I install other modules that is running DDR 400MHz? It doesn't matter if the modules end up running at 333MHz rather than 400MHz. As my main concern is that I'm not sure if the DDR 400MHz would work in my laptop. Thanks all!

http://www.crucial.com run the system scanner, it will tell you what upgrade options you have.

The 400mhz ram should be able to step down to 333. As long as its not like DDR or something Just when you replace it, remove both of the current sticks and replace with 2x 512 or 1x1024mb. Dont mix unlike size and speed ram.
3 :
you'd need to check the manufacturer. your laptop BIOS may only support a maximum of 512mb.
4 :
Yes, the 400 would work and as you pointed out, it would be downgraded to running at 333 IF there's another 333 in there or the motherboard cannot run the 400mhz. Sometimes the motherboard can handle faster ram but that's not what's installed so if you remove all of the 333, the 400 may run at 400. You'd have to find the specs for your laptop to be sure.
5 :
Don't know about DDR 400MHz. Go to: http://www.datamemorysystems.com/
6 :
as long as it is the same time of memory(some laptops can be picky) and it has the some number of pins it will run. make sure its the same voltage, 200 pin ddr
7 :
go with Gene's suggestion.. that way you know what you're getting and it will tell you what the maximum amount of ram is for your puter and what you can put in each slot.
8 :
I agree with gene also... run a diagnostic on your MB and see what it will accept. Why put 333 in when your MB can handle 400? IF it can that is. Memory is ficle. Do your homework.

What does 'Parity Check 20000' mean and how do I fix it?
Every time I try to turn on my laptop (benq joybook s32) it is showing the message 'Parity Check 20,000' and failing to start up. I can't find anything about how to solve this problem on the net, apart from the fact that it may be something to do with the memory. How do I fix this?

You replace your memory sticks with known good sticks. If your laptop has two sticks of memory, you remove one and start the laptop up. If the problem still occurs, you remove the second, put the first one back in and then start it up. If you only have one stick of memory, then you will need to replace it with a new one. end of line
